BBC star Aled Jones is being investigated by the BBC over an allegation of sexual harassment.

Jones, 46, shot to fame as a choirboy in the 1980s and has continued to appear in the public eye as a classical artist and host of Songs of Praise and radio shows.

The Anglesey-born star presents a show on BBC Radio Wales.

It is understood he has not presented that show since October 22.

He also presents a show on Classic FM, and has continued with that show on Sunday.

He has said that the allegation does not relate to his broadcast work.

A spokesman for the classical music star has said that while he accepts his behaviour over a decade ago was “occasionally juvenile” he “never intended to harass or distress and he strongly denies any inappropriate contact”.

A spokesperson for Aled Jones said: “Although not related to any broadcast work, Aled voluntarily agreed not to go on the BBC while the matter is investigated.

“Whilst he accepts that his behaviour over a decade ago was occasionally juvenile, as was that of others, he never intended to harass or distress and he strongly denies any inappropriate contact.

“He is, however, deeply sorry for any upset caused and hopes this matter is resolved soon.”

The BBC has previously said it is investigating 25 cases of sexual harassment.

Anne Bulford told the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee that the BBC is looking into “25 live cases”.

They made a statement in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein revelations.

“Since the Harvey Weinstein revelations, we’ve been actively encouraging staff to come forward with any concerns.

“We hope other employers are doing the same, and when allegations are made, we have well-established processes to investigate.”

The BBC declined to comment.
