How they rated
Didn’t look comfortable trying to bring the ball out, leading to Neal Maupay’s missed open goal, but his glovework was always smart. Made some excellent saves.
BRUNO MANGA
Some good marauding work down the right helped the Gabon international find Danny Ward for the second goal, but he was dragged out of position a little too often.
SOL BAMBA
Back in his favoured central defence spot and performed closer to his usual standard. Distracted Maupay just enough to force the match-defining miss.
SEAN MORRISON (CAPT)
Let off the hook by Maupay’s horrendous miss but otherwise headed everything that came his way. Was troubled a touch by Brentford’s fluid movement.
JOE BENNETT
A very tidy display from the returning left-back, even if he was severely tested by Brentford right-winger Florian Jozefzoon. Made a brilliant goalline clearance in the second half.
CRAIG BRYSON
Looked a bit panicky at times, making rash clearances instead of finding a blue shirt. Blazed just over with a volley on 32 minutes but his energy was valuable.
LOIC DAMOUR
Preferred to Lee Tomlin in the No.10 role and justified his inclusion with some early impetus, before tiring a little. Was sacrificed as Warnock re-introduced Aron Gunnarsson.
LIAM FEENEY
Eyebrows were raised when the on-loan Blackburn winger was handed a second Cardiff start. And he didn’t set the world alight; was booked making a rash tackle trying to recover for his own mistake. Replaced by Paterson.
JUNIOR HOILETT
Can definitely offer more in the final third, but perhaps didn’t see enough of the ball to make an impact. Can’t fault his work rate.
DANNY WARD
Positioned himself in the right place at the right time to slot home Cardiff’s second and, as always, worked his socks off. Freddie Gounongbe replaced him late on.
