Revealing truths about our people
I WISH to congratulate and complement Patrick McGuinness for his excellent article entitled “Wales the poor relation must now assert itself ” (Western Mail November 16).
It contains revealing truths about the gross lack of political self-confidence of most people in Wales, their servile deference to the English establishment and their marked tendency to belittle themselves.
This is, of course due to the immense pro-England and pro- English indoctrination they have been subjected to throughout their lives, particularly by our education system and the media emanating almost entirely from London.
Having visited both Samoa (population 200,000) and Tonga (100,000) in June, the difference in attitude between the people of Wales and the people of these two small independent countries could hardly be starker.
All individuals I asked agreed that its independence was what they valued most about their country. Moreover, although virtually all the people of these islands speak quite fluent English, it was certainly not at the expense of their own languages Samoan and Tongan.
All the people spoke their own language to each other at all times – with pride.
It is not in the least surprising that the so-called Welsh Labour MPs voted against allowing the Welsh Assembly a meaningful say in Brexit.
Like the Welsh Tory MPs they are basically English nationalists masquerading as British nationalists.
With any issue at Westminster that is beneficial to England but detrimental to Wales, to their shame they can be relied upon to favour the English establishment (very well represented in their party) and England in preference to Wales and their own constituents.
