Top spot in sight for the Dragons

-

THE RACECOURSE 7.45pm WREXHAM v SOLIHULL MOORS WREXHAM can go top of the National League this evening if they beat struggling Solihull Moors at the Racecourse – and leaders Dover Athletic fail to win at Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Dragons continued their promotion push with a 2-0 win over Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, which moved them just a point behind Dover, who could only draw at Leyton Orient.

However, with only 10 points separating the top 15 sides in what is an incredibly-tight division, Wrexham boss Dean Keates expects plenty more twists and turns, given the competitive nature of the division.

“It is what it is; it’s going to be a rollercoaster season,” he said.

“But all we can do is look after ourselves and focus on the games in front of us.

“We will do our best, as the players do every day in training and they do every game.

“We will go out and, all being well, we can get the three points.”

Wrexham have tasted defeat just once in 10 league games on home soil so far this season, which was a 1-0 reverse by Macclesfield Town, another of the promotion chasers, back on the opening day of the season.

Meanwhile, struggling Solihull, who had manager Richard Money quit after only 26 days in charge at the end of last month, are fighting for their National League lives.

Without a win in four matches, they are currently 23rd in the division and seven points from safety, but did battle to a 1-1 draw with Maidstone on Saturdday with a goal from on-loan Coventry striker Kwame Thomas.

They have a new management team in place, with former Cheltenham boss Mark Yates being assisted by ex-England goalkeeper Tim Flowers.

The Dragons were victorious when the sides last met back in February, when Anthony Barry’s seventh-minute penalty guided them a 1-0 victory over Moors at Damson Park.

That was part of a league double for Wrexham over Solihull having also beaten them 1-0 at the Racecourse at the beginning of last season. Mark Carrington bagged a 90th minute winner on that occasion.
