Man’s phone and wallet stolen in Newport attack

TWO men with hats pulled over their faces and carrying a knife attacked a man before fleeing with his phone and wallet in a terrifying late-night robbery.

Between 10.30-10.50pm on Sunday the pair approached a man in Corporatio­n Road, Newport, asking for the time.

The victim answered and tried to walk away but the two men continued to follow him, asking him to check the time on his phone, while showing him what is believed to be the tip of a knife.

After the victim refused, the two men assaulted him and made off with his mobile phone and wallet.

He did not sustain any injuries during the attack, a Gwent Police spokesman said.

The first man is described as black, around 18 years old and approximat­ely 5ft 10in in height. He was of slim build and spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a black hooded top and had a black bobble-hat pulled over his face. He was also wearing grey jogging bottoms of a shiny polyester material with a shiny silver stripe down the legs.

The second man is described as black, around 5ft 8in in height, and of slim build. He was wearing a black hooded top and had a similar hat which was also pulled over his face. He was wearing black jogging bottoms of a cotton material.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said they believed it to be an isolated incident. Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call 101 quoting log 537 of November 19.
