National Trust Wales is launching its 12 Walks of Christmas campaign as the antidote to the frenzied consumerism of Black Friday, instead encouraging families to go for a walk and make a wish on one of their wish trees for the year ahead...
FANCY a walk through the tranquil Welsh winter countryside this Christmas? National Trust Wales is urging people to use time over December to reconnect with nature and make a wish for 2018 in its 12 Walks of Christmas campaign.
The 12 Walks of Christmas are located at National Trust properties across Wales including Powis Castle, Bodnant Garden, Stackpole and Dyffryn Gardens.
Justin Albert, director of National Trust Wales, said: “Christmas is a time of celebration, of sharing and of families coming together, and that’s exactly what we want to achieve at our special places in Wales. We want visitors to come and enjoy one, or maybe all, of our 12 Walks of Christmas, spending quality time with their loved ones. In doing so, people will be helping support further vital conservation work and making our ultimate wish come true, to safeguard these special places for ever, for everyone.”
Listed as one of the Trust’s wishes for 2017, Tredegar House raised more than £15,000 to fund muchneeded work on the roof and exterior of the property through its Sign a Slate campaign and sales in the onsite bookshop. Together with a generous grant of £150,000 from the Wolfson Foundation, the restoration work got under way.
Emily Price, house and collections manager at Tredegar, said: “We are so proud and grateful to everyone involved in the restoration efforts at Tredegar House. From the volunteers that helped raise the money to the team of expert builders that made the repairs, the visitors that have supported us by signing a slate and to the Wolfson Foundation for their generous grant, everyone has played their part.
“We can’t think of a better time to unwrap the house’s new roof than at Christmas and we can’t wait to welcome visitors through the doors once more.
“The new trail leads all the way around the estate and will give visitors the perfect opportunity to see the house improvements.”
