Match, problems

to do in terms of the way we play, but probably the main difference is we have picked a ball-playing 12 which is different to what we’ve had in the past.

Sometimes that’s about the players at your disposal at a given time. We don’t have a big playing base, so don’t always have the players to fill a way you might want to go.

We feel at the moment there are two or three players who can fill that role and, in the past, we used Gavin Henson. This hasn’t been a process from two weeks ago, it’s been something we’ve been working towards for the last couple of years.

The game is not about changing it’s about evolving. We don’t feel we’re a year or two years behind anyone else. Q: With Owen Williams, he was playing well for a while for Leicester, but not selected. What changed your thinking on him? WG: We did speak to Aaron Mauger (then Leicester coach) about what he thought of Owen. He said he felt his best position was 12. A couple of times we wanted to include him but he picked up injuries.

But he has things to work on. He has to stay square, he’s a bit too lateral at the moment and defensively he has things to work on.

He has showed some nice touches, but he’s well aware from our conversations that he has lots of improvements to make.

Right from day one players who come to this environment are aware of the jump up from Premiership or regional rugby to this level and that it is a huge step.

Youngsters realise how much work they have to do and Owen understands it too.
