Intern the solid option

-

ALL EYES will be on Toast Of New York as he returns to the track in the Betway Conditions Stakes, but preference is for Intern in the Lingfield feature.

Toast Of New York has been off the track since finishing a narrow second in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita three years ago and obviously if he can reproduce anywhere near that level of form, he should win with ease here.

However, it would be a stretch to imagine he can possibly come back at that kind of level, so it could pay to take him on with Intern, who will be making his debut for David Simcock.

Previously trained by Ralph Beckett, Intern was last seen when well beaten in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, racing far too freely that day and paying the price.

He was previously beaten just a head in the Sandown Classic Trial while his fiveand-three-quarter-length defeat behind Capri in August 2016 also reads particularly well now.

Now a gelding, Intern could find the challenge of all-weather action to his liking.

Temeraire made an instant impact on her British bow at this track last month and can keep up the good work in the 32Red. com Fillies’ Handicap.

Placed in four of her five French starts for Alex Pantall, Temeraire was handed a new challenge by Hugo Palmer when dropped back to six furlongs from trips of up to 10 furlongs.

She duly obliged in style, winning by four and a half lengths, and her rating of 76 gives Palmer plenty to work with as she switches back up to seven furlongs this time.

Jamie Osborne may be out of luck with Toast Of New York at Lingfield, but Enigmatic can ensure the yard hits the Wednesday target in the Bet & Watch At sunbets.co.uk Handicap at Newcastle.

Gelding this son of Elnadim appears to have done him the world of good as he has struck gold twice in as many starts since returning to action.

Mr Mix can enhance his 50 per cent strike rate over fences with victory in the Rowles Fine Art Novices’ Chase at Ludlow.

Paul Nicholls’ runner was a bit up and down over hurdles and has continued in that vein over fences, showing a likeable attitude to win on his debut before being beaten at Chepstow.

He bounced back at Wincanton but then found the challenge of the Badger Ales Trophy far too much last time, pulling up when it was clear he had no chance. This appears a more suitable test.

Buster Thomas can step up on his debut effort over fences in Haydock’s Liverpool University Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA Novices’ Chase.

The six-year-old looks a horse of potential for Emma Lavelle and after winning one of his two hurdles starts last term, he shaped with promise on his first chasing outing last month.
