Intern the solid option
ALL EYES will be on Toast Of New York as he returns to the track in the Betway Conditions Stakes, but preference is for Intern in the Lingfield feature.
Toast Of New York has been off the track since finishing a narrow second in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita three years ago and obviously if he can reproduce anywhere near that level of form, he should win with ease here.
However, it would be a stretch to imagine he can possibly come back at that kind of level, so it could pay to take him on with Intern, who will be making his debut for David Simcock.
Previously trained by Ralph Beckett, Intern was last seen when well beaten in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, racing far too freely that day and paying the price.
He was previously beaten just a head in the Sandown Classic Trial while his fiveand-three-quarter-length defeat behind Capri in August 2016 also reads particularly well now.
Now a gelding, Intern could find the challenge of all-weather action to his liking.
Temeraire made an instant impact on her British bow at this track last month and can keep up the good work in the 32Red. com Fillies’ Handicap.
Placed in four of her five French starts for Alex Pantall, Temeraire was handed a new challenge by Hugo Palmer when dropped back to six furlongs from trips of up to 10 furlongs.
She duly obliged in style, winning by four and a half lengths, and her rating of 76 gives Palmer plenty to work with as she switches back up to seven furlongs this time.
Jamie Osborne may be out of luck with Toast Of New York at Lingfield, but Enigmatic can ensure the yard hits the Wednesday target in the Bet & Watch At sunbets.co.uk Handicap at Newcastle.
