Missed it at the cinema or on TV? We round up the best streaming and DVD releases of the week
DUNKIRK (12)
DUNKIRK is a stunning mosaic of personal stories of hard-fought triumph and agonising defeat against the sprawling backdrop of the largest evacuation of allied forces during the Second World War.
Director Christopher Nolan adopts a stripped back approach to storytelling that jettisons dialogue for long sequences.
The ensemble cast is excellent, including One Direction dreamboat Harry Styles, left, who confidently hefts the emotional weight of one stand-off in a sinking boat.
Available December 12 on download and streaming services, available from December 18 on DVD £19.99.
THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD (15)
THE Hitman’s Bodyguard is a fitfully entertaining, testosterone-saturated romp that orchestrates mayhem around the fractious on-screen chemistry of its two leads.
Ryan Reynolds, left, and Samuel L Jackson relish the potty-mouthed dialogue, but it’s co-star Salma Hayek who sinks her painted talons deepest into every scene. She is a delirious delight as the latter man’s snarling, sex-charged wife.
Available from December 11 on download and streaming services, also available from December 11 on DVD £19.99.
THE DARK TOWER (12)
BASED on Stephen King’s compelling series of fantasy novels, The Dark Tower is a muddled odyssey that reduces the author’s magnum opus to an uninvolving hybrid of The Hunger Games and Divergent. A sprightly running time leaves no room for character development, and the emaciated script fails to make explicit the stakes or repercussions for the young hero.
A solid performance from rising star Doctor Foster’s Tom Taylor, left, cannot distract from the disjointed narrative.
Available from December 11 on download and streaming services, also available from December 11 on DVD £19.99.
