Breakfast is served on new trains

-

THIS top-notch fried breakfast has been dished up for the first time on one of Wales’ new diesel-electric intercity trains.

The Pullman dining car service has been moved over to the new fleet of Intercity Express Trains (IET) as the rollout of the new faster, larger trains continues.

From yesterday, Great Western Railways introduced the first IET service from Carmarthen to London Paddington; a further nine more services a day between Swansea and London Paddington, and eight services between Cardiff Central and London Paddington.

The first Pullman dining car was on the 10.45am Paddington to Swansea service on Tuesday. The Welsh Great Westerner breakfast on its menu includes local produce including a Glamorgan sausage, and other dishes include West Country fillet steak and spiced apple crumble with Cornish custard.

The new services are on top of the existing IET services which were launched in October.

GWR managing director Mark Hopwood said: “This marks a massive step towards delivering the capacity improvements we have promised, and the biggest fleet upgrade in a generation.

“I am delighted to see even more IETs enter service, enabling us to make further improvements throughout our network, and supporting the Welsh communities we serve.”

GWR has also replaced services between Cardiff and Taunton with newer rolling stock, providing up to double the number of seats per train.

The trains will provide more than 1,700 additional seats between Cardiff and Taunton each day.
