-

A PAEDOPHILE has been warned to expect a prison sentence after he admitted trying to meet a girl for sex at a hotel in Newport.

Rajash Lama, 48, was planning to travel from his home near Birmingham to the Gateway Express hotel with the intention of meeting a 14-year-old child for sexual activity.

Speaking at Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Thomas Crowther QC told the defendant: “All sentencing options are open.”

During the brief hearing, Lama spoke only to confirm his name and enter guilty pleas to six counts. The court heard the offending occurred over a threeweek period between May 11 and June 1 last year.

On count one, Lama admitted attempting sexual communication with a child. He went on to enter guilty pleas to three counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

On count five, the defendant admitted attempting to incite the sexual exploitation of a child.

Lama pleaded guilty to a final count of attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence by arranging to meet the girl at the Gateway Express hotel in Newport.

Michael Jones QC, prosecuting, said the charges related to a 14-year-old girl.

Judge Crowther adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report and psychiatric report.

Lama was granted bail on the condition that he must live and sleep each night at his home address at Titford Road, Sandwell.

He must not have contact with children aged under 16 and must not delete his browsing history or use private mode when accessing the internet.
