Welsh side could yet be covered in glory

-

ALL credit to Warren Gatland and his coaches for picking such a positive match day 23 for the Scotland game. Naturally, on the back of the Scarlets’ outstanding performances both in the European and Pro 14 championships this season, I had hoped to see a strong representation from them, and the ten in the starting 15, and 12 in total is totally deserved. After the injuries to so many key players including six Test Lions this season, I had thought any chance of Wales doing well in the Six Nations was out.

Now I genuinely think we have a chance, although no less than 100% from every player, as well as a little luck will be necessary to prevail against an exceptional Scotland who have been so impressive under Gregor Townsend. The silver lining is that our injury crisis has given Warren and his coaches an opportunity to build real depth as we head towards the next World Cup, with a delightful mix of youngsters and mature heads, including our multi-talented and determined evergreen captain, Alun Wyn!

As we all know, of course, it is ten years since Warren’s first match in charge of Wales, when we were written off before our opening game at HQ. That day Warren picked 13 Ospreys to start and Wales won 26-19 before going on to win a glorious Grand Slam!

If our boys play to their full potential, Saturday could see us on our way to another glorious Six Nations campaign! Fingers crossed.
