Teen singer hoping for national success
A TEENAGE singer is hoping to make it big on a new TV talent show for children.
Annie Mae Lewis, 14, is a trained classical singer but is hoping to make her name in the pop industry.
Annie, from Cowbridge, is to appear on a new talent contest called Got What it Takes? which airs on CBBC this month.
Annie said: “I was at Howell’s School when I started singing and having lessons.
“I guess it was at this point that I started having a real taste for it.
“A few years later I saw an advertisement for this show and I thought, ‘This is my time, so why not just go for it?’”
Annie said she mainly focused on classical training while at school.
She said: “I was used to singing all the classical and operatic styles of music but this show is more about pop.”
Annie said: “I’m into quite a variety of music. I don’t really aspire to one artist in particular but I do love great singers like Jennifer Hudson and Fergie.”
If she wins Annie will get to perform at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Swansea.
She will also get to collaborate with a mystery famous singer if she walks away with the top prize.
Annie said: “I just feel that when I sing I can let myself go a bit.
“I just love being on the stage. I love how I feel when I’m singing.”
Got What It Takes? is on CBBC at 5.30pm on February 14.
