Double injury blow for Swans

-

SWANSEA City have suffered a double injury blow in their battle against relegation from the Premier League.

Leroy Fer and Wilfried Bony have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season after being injured in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Dutchman Fer was stretchered off the pitch in severe pain during the first-half, and the club confirmed the midfielder is set to undergo surgery after suffering an Achilles injury that will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

There was equally bad news as far as Bony is concerned, with the striker suffering a knee problem within minutes of replacing Nathan Dyer in the clash with Claude Puel’s side.

The Ivorian played out the final 20 minutes of the match as the Swans claimed a vital point in their quest to avoid the drop, although Bony had to leave Leicester in a knee brace.

And scans have revealed that the Swans’ summer signing has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, meaning he will also miss the rest of his side’s relegation run-in.

The pair will be assessed again later in the week, with the club set to issue a further injury update on their recoveries.

Despite the loss of two of his senior players, Carvalhal was upbeat about the point earned at Leicester after seven successive away defeats against the Foxes.

“We achieved a point against one of the strongest teams in the competition. They are very strong at home with good support from the fans,” said Carvalhal. ”We’ve lost the last seven games here, so we broke that wall.”
