Tribute as Lady Myra Secombe dies aged 93

-

LADY Myra Secombe – the widow of comic legend Sir Harry Secombe – has passed away aged 93.

She was former patron of the Sir Harry Secombe Trust but had not been to visit members in Swansea for some time due to illness. She died on February 7.

Sharon Roberts, the trust’s administrator, said: “We were aware of her death as she used to be our patron until she was too ill to travel down.

“Then the children lost contact, although I did have a recent conversation with David Secombe.

“We did a show last week and Keith Milward came to see it. He said Lady Myra had passed away and contacted Katy Secombe (Lady Myra’s daughter) to pass on condolences.”

Mrs Roberts said the group continued to be proud of the link to the late St Thomas-born comic, who starred in The Goon Show, along with Secombe and Friends and Highway, and died in April 2001.

Lady Secombe’s daughter, Jenny Secombe, in the Facebook group ‘So You Think You Know Swansea?’ paid tribute, writing: “RIP my lovely Mum, Myra, Lady Secombe, a Swansea girl through and through. 25/5/1924 – 7/2/2018.

“Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 21, at 11.30am at the Church of St Mary The Virgin, Westerham, Kent.

“She was the daughter of James and Florrie Atherton, lived in Courtney Street and Parkmill, met Harry Secombe at a dance and married him in 1948 at St Barnabus Church. They were married until he died.”
