Why is southWales one huge dustbin?

-

MY job requires me to travel throughout south Wales.

I have been astounded by the amount of rubbish on the roads and verges. There are bottles, nappies, crisp bags, plastics of all descriptions. I am not sure what we should do with the idiots who do this (perhaps we should take their registration number and report them and then get them cleaning up the mess they drop). We could use those who have employment benefit to support the work also.

I was behind a guy on the A470 at Merthyr when he opened his window and emptied his ashtray onto the road, I had the full fall-out of that.

We live in a beautiful country and I hate to see it abused in this way. It is a very poor message to give to visitors to our land, so tourism will suffer.

Local authorities will say with the cuts this is now low priority but we cannot continue to take no action else we will be drowning under the stuff. And what do we do about those people who don’t seem to have a brain? We need to report them and hold them to account. I sometimes feel we are living in a third-world country where nobody cares.

I am willing to give up a number of days of my own time to collect such rubbish wherever needed, but would want all of the community to support me. Can we not do a huge event so that everyone contributes to making our current dustbin a beautiful country again?

I am amazed that this has not been raised previously by local and national politicians, and business people who travel around the country every day. Are they oblivious? Please can we find a solution?
