Keates refusing to give up on title tilt as Dragons tackle Shots

-

WREXHAM boss Dean Keates is refusing to give up on his side’s National League title chances ahead of today’s must-win home clash with Aldershot.

The Dragons’ 0-0 draw at Solihull Moors in midweek has seen them slip to fifth in the division and also leaves them six points off the summit.

Leaders Macclesfield Town also have a game in hand on the men RACECOURSE 3pm WREXHAM v ALDERSHOT from the Racecourse and, although Keates’ side are currently on a 11-game unbeaten league run, eight of those have been draws – which is hardly title-winning form.

Aldershot, meanwhile, have seen their own challenge falter, having taken just one point from a possible last six.

They slipped to a 2-1 home defeat by Macclesfield last weekend before dropping points – again at home – after they were held 1-1 by Bromley in midweek.

“We have got to be positive,” Keates.

“The lads are having a little bit of a wobble, but we can’t be too downhearted.

“They are a little bit down, frustrated, but we’ve had a good chat.

“It is still up there for grabs; there are going to be points dropped over all the division and lots of twists and turns before the end of the season.”

Wrexham will also have a bit of a point to prove against Aldershot in more ways than one.

They went into the reverse meeting back on November 25 having gone top of the National League for the first time since March 2013 only four days prior.

But first half goals from Bernard Mensah and Shamir Fenelon brought Wrexham crashing back down to earth with a bang on what was a desperately disappointing display and a 2-0 defeat in Hampshire. “It’s a massive game,” said Keates. “They are coming thick and fast, it’s the next game and the biggest game of the season for us. “We are at home and we want to give the fans three points.”
