Chance to help Wales go global at LA business masterclass

- CHRIS PYKE Business reporter chris.pyke@walesonline.co.uk

ENTREPRENEURS in Wales have the opportunity fly to LA for a business masterclass GlobalWelsh, an organisation committed to connecting one million people around the world with an affinity for Wales, has just announced the opening of the application period for Meet the Makers, an initiative sponsored by Pelican Products.

Selected applicants will participate in a week-long, all-expenses-paid programme in California this September. They will spend the week learning from and collaborating with top Pelican professionals in various business disciplines such as sales, marketing, human resources, design, research and development, customer service, finance and information technology.

Pelican Products is a global leader in the design and manufacture of highperformance protective cases, temperature-controlled packaging solutions, advanced portable lighting systems and rugged gear for professionals and outdoor enthusiasts.

Lyndon Faulkner, the Newport-born CEO of Pelican, is looking to share his international success by bringing six Welsh business entrepreneurs to the United States for this comprehensive learning experience.

Mr Faulkner played rugby union for Newport and Pontypool in the 1980s, before embarking on a business career where he has held a number of roles, including president of Nimbus CD International and senior executive positions in the US with Microsoft.

The Meet the Makers programme is the first initiative of the GlobalWelsh Academy, aimed at providing members with workshops, mentoring, inspiring talks, masterclasses and global opportunities directly from the GlobalWelsh community and wider Welsh diaspora.

Judges for the Meet the Makers include GlobalWelsh investor Phil Buck and Rolls-Royce Holdings CEO Warren East. Mr East, an early supporter of GlobalWelsh, will offer his expertise as CEO of the iconic global manufacturer Rolls-Royce Holdings as well as ARM Holdings and Texas Instruments.

Mr Faulkner is passionate about the GlobalWelsh community.

He said: “It’s exciting for me to be part of a programme where I can use my 25 years of international business experience to help Welsh companies grow inside and outside of Wales. We’re sponsoring this initiative to support the effort to connect Welsh people across the globe”.

Attendees will get the chance to talk about the challenges their business faces and receive practical guidance and support on their next steps.

For GlobalWelsh, the aim of the initiative is to create a peer-mentoring group of ambitious individuals who will benefit most from this opportunity – and encourage and push others to work to their highest potential.

Interested individuals and businesses can join the GlobalWelsh movement as a community member or become a “Pioneer” and donate funds to the mission, helping GlobalWelsh offer similar opportunities that create real impact for Welsh entrepreneurs.
