NOFIT State circus returns to Cardiff with its first large show in three years – and it looks utterly mesmerising.

The internationally renowned circus company is bringing its latest touring show Lexicon home this weekend as part of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover.

The Cardiff Bay venue will host the first performance of a large-scale tented work in the capital since 2015.

This stunning new production brings together world-class circus performers, musicians, and artists in a daring, seductive and utterly contemporary take on the circus experience.

The Big Top audiences will find an elaborate new stage and seating structure, one that harks back to the traditions and heritage of circus in the year in which the world celebrates Circus250, the 250th anniversary since the creation of the circus by its founding father Philip Astley.

The Big Top show along the barrage walkway runs between Saturday, May 26 and Saturday, June 9. Matinee showings take place on selected days throughout the week, and evening performances take place at 7.30pm.

NoFit State co-founder and artistic director Tom Rack said that Lexicon embraces the origins of circus with traditional style seated “in-the-round” audience and some more traditional skills and techniques.

“Expect spectacular, heart-in-yourmouth aerial skills, beautiful images and exciting live music.

“We have an international cast of incredibly talented performers and an amazing creative team,” he said. “It’s shaping up to be a fresh and fantastic show. A powerful performance as much as a wild celebration of the past, present and future of circus, Lexicon is a world inhabited by quiet misfits and furious poetry, a world of magic, laughter and lightness. As you take your seats, enter an experience like no other.”
