Dead snakes discovered dumped in pillowcase

-

TWO snakes have been found dead in a pillowcase, the RSPCA has confirmed.

The royal pythons were found by someone taking part in geocaching – an outdoor treasure-hunting game using GPS-enabled devices – in Treherbert, Rhondda.

They were found on Saturday a short distance from the wind farm and from Hendre’r Mynydd car park.

During their hunt, the caller was appalled to discover a pillowcase that was tied up. Inside there were two dead snakes coiled around each other.

RSPCA inspector Annie Simmonds said: “During an examination by a vet, it was found that one of the snakes had bruising and a possible fracture which will be investigated further.

“The other slightly larger snake didn’t have any obvi- ous injuries.

“We don’t know what happened here or where these snakes came from, so we are appealing for anyone with information about these snakes to contact the RSPCA Inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.

“It must have been such a shock to find the snakes in the bag by the caller who came across them while geocaching at the time.”

The RSPCA said it regularly receives reports of dead, abandoned and unwell reptiles.

Inspector Simmonds added: “We are urging potential owners to thoroughly research what is required in the care of the exotic animal before taking one on, as potential owners need to make sure they can give their animal the environment it needs.”
