Cardiff care home stages a mock Royal Wedding
EXCITED residents at a Cardiff care home had front row seats at their own mock wedding to celebrate the Royal Wedding.
Ty Llandaff, a private nursing, residential and respite care home in Conway Road, Pontcanna, brought Saturday’s wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to life for their residents by staging a fictitious ceremony in one of their luxury lounges.
The fake wedding brought staff and residents together as they acted out the different roles.
The bride, senior carer Jo Western, was walked down the aisle by two gentlemen residents, Norman Bennett, 90, and Daniel Rosewell, 102.
The groom was played by carer Jason Howells. In an amusing twist, the entertaining maintenance support manager, Ralph Evans, unleashed his feminine side to play the chief bridesmaid.
Guest singer Jackie Webbe, wearing a stunning Union Flag dress, added a sense of occasion to the day with a beautiful selection of songs. Although the wedding did not have quite the media attention of Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, TV cameras filmed the event and it was later shown on ITV Wales.
Following the ceremony, residents were treated to a range of delicacies and a slice of wedding cake made by Ty Llandaff’s head chef Barry White and his team.
Ty Llandaff care home manager, Janice Evans, said: “There was so much excitement in the home about the Royal Wedding, so we thought it would be lovely for the residents to have a little pre-wed- ding event.
“Everyone was delighted to have the chance to be so closely involved, remember their own weddings, anticipate the Royal Wedding and have a bit of a giggle at the same time. We were delighted to welcome our guest singer Jackie Webb whose songs just added the perfect touch. There was a real buzz around the home and the residents had a great time.”
