Potter’s philosophy ‘would suit Swansea’

-

GRAHAM Potter would fit the football philosophy Swansea City want to get back to, according to goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

FK Ostersunds boss Potter is on course to succeed Carlos Carvalhal and become Swansea City’s fifth manager in 19 months.

He has held talks with Liberty Stadium chiefs and the 43-year-old is expected to be unveiled next week, after taking charge of his current club for one last time against BK Hacken on Saturday, Ostersunds’ final fixture before the Allsvenskan takes a six-week break for the World Cup.

Nordfeldt and Swansea defender Martin Olsson have been back in Sweden preparing for the global showpiece in Russia, and the keeper believes Potter could be the man to return Swansea to the attractive style of play that was once their trademark.

“It has been difficult to avoid (talk of Potter’s appointment),” he told Sports Expressen.

“I have followed Ostersund’s fantastic journey. Then I’ve talked with Ken (Sema) the times he has been here. There has hardly been any- thing negative to say.

“I think the football that Ostersund has played would fit the philosophy that the club wants to embrace. We may have come away from the club’s identity the last two seasons if you want to be objective.

“Swansea has always stood for a positive football and being a bit different in Britain.

“But it may have disappeared a little over the last two years as we played for survival. It has ultimately been more important than the philosophy that built the club.

“But if it is clear or not, I have no idea. But he is probably one of the candidates who has been highlighted and it feels like a reasonable choice.”

Olsson was also asked for his view on Potter’s expected appointment, but the former Norwich and Blackburn defender admitted he knew little about his potential club manager. “I’ve only heard that they are playing good football,” he said. “Then I see how well Ostersund has done.

“But we’ll see, if it happens I’ll find out more about him.”
