Two ar­rested after stab­bings

TWO men have been ar­rested and two men re­mained in hospi­tal yes­ter­day with stab wounds after an in­ci­dent in New­port.

Po­lice were called to a dis­tur­bance on Victoria Cres­cent, in the Baneswell area of the city on Tues­day even­ing.

A Gwent Po­lice spokes­woman yes­ter­day said: “At ap­prox­i­mately 5.50pm on Tues­day, po­lice were called to a dis­tur­bance on Victoria Cres­cent in New­port.

“Two men, aged 22 and 24 from New­port, had re­ceived stab wounds and were con­veyed to the Royal Gwent Hospi­tal where they cur­rently re­main.

“Their in­juries are not life threat­en­ing.”

The spokes­woman said two men were ar­rested and re­mained in cus­tody.

She added: “Two men, aged 21 and 25 from New­port, have been ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent.

“The 21-year-old has been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of at­tempted mur­der and the 25-year-old has been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of wound­ing with in­tent.

“They both re­main in po­lice cus­tody at this time.”
