Theresa May a disaster and a truly lame duck

-

ONCE again Theresa May demonstrates her ability to shoot herself in the foot. She is proposing large tax increases, with details to be announced in the autumn budget, allegedly to fund the NHS.

Does she think that taxpayers will be jumping for joy, or voting Tory, when they see their increased tax bills?

It is arguable that one reason the Tories lost their majority last year was that May came up with the idea of abolishing the winter fuel payment for most pensioners.

Something like 10 million people would have been affected. You are not going to vote Tory when they are set on abolishing your winter fuel payment.

May ignores the enormous amount of money this country wastes in foreign aid. That money could be diverted to the NHS. Instead, May prefers foreigners to British taxpayers. The Tories are now a high-tax party, just like Labour.

As a former employee of the NHS I can testify that it has a bloated and overpaid administration. It is not going to reform itself. After all, they are on a good number. It is commonly asserted that turkeys do not vote for Christmas. Any extra tax revenue will go straight into the pockets of the NHS managers and not to clinical care, except in the fantasy world of Theresa May. Perhaps she is unaware of the sheer contempt NHS administrators have for their clinical staff.

May was a disaster as Home Secretary – witness the large number of lost police posts. I think she is an even bigger disaster as Prime Minister. Perhaps her idea of overtaxing the British taxpayer will make the Tories think twice about supporting this lame duck. Dr Cynlais Jenkins Tonypandy
