The annualWels­h language celebratio­n of arts and culture returns to Cardiff this weekend. We take a look at the Tafwyl highlights Everything you need to know about Tafwyl 2018

Where and when is Tafwyl 2018?

The festival is back at Cardiff Castle tomorrow and Sunday and the gates are open from 11am to 9pm.

How much is it?

Entrance is free to Tafwyl. There’s no need to buy tickets, just turn up at the castle on the day.

Entry to Cardiff Castle is usually £13 so make the most of this free weekend to see the beautiful castle grounds.

What are the highlights? If you love music...

A total of 50 bands will play over the weekend over four stages, with an eclectic mix of bands and artists that’s sure to appeal to a wide audience.

On Saturday, Band Pres Llareggub, Omaloma, Chroma and Adwaith are among the bands taking to the Main Stage, with Candelas, Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog and Cadno performing on Sunday.

Over on the acoustic stage The Gentle Good, Gai Toms, Glain Rhys, Lleuwen and Aled Rheon will be among the talent from across Wales performing.

Llwyfan y Porth is a performanc­e space outside Cardiff Castle full of lively, loud brass, jazz and folk bands including Bass 12, Wonderbras­s and 3D Brass; and the fourth stage at Yurt T is a platform for up and coming Welsh artists including Serol Serol and Eady Crawford.

If you’re a foodie...

In addition to the fantastic music lined up for Tafwyl 2018, the street food area is a festival within a festival, with more street food stalls than even before.

Some favourites from the foodie scene in Cardiff attending include Meat and Greek, Tukka Tuk, Grazing Shed, Science Cream and Ffwrnes.

The food and drink marquee – Popty – will be full of tasting sessions and cookery demos with names including Dusty Knuckle Pizza, Wrights Wines, Cocorico Patisserie, Imran Nathoo and Pant Du.

If you’re a fan of the Hay Festival...

The Byw yn y Ddinas (Cardiff Life) Yurt will be full of Q & A sessions, discussion panels and comedy.

Sessions range from a panel discussion about journalism in Wales to a bilingual drag show with Connie Orff.

Stonewall will discuss homophobia in sports; and Beti George will chat to Elfed Roberts, chief executive of the National Eisteddfod before this year’s event visits Cardiff Bay.

If you fancy a few drinks...

There are four bars at Tafwyl. Cocktail connoisseu­rs Milgi are serving up their super seasonal foraged cocktails, and the 1970s psychedeli­c caravan bar, Cavavan, will be selling fizz.

Two bars serving a range of Welsh produce including Cwrw Tafwyl (Tomos & Lilford), Brains, Cwrw Llyn, Gower Brewery and Wrexham Lager will complete the drinks line-up.

If you’re bringing a baby or toddler...

Green Giraffe Nursery & Mudiad Meithrin have put together a jampacked programme of activities in the Baby Yurt. Let your child get messy with body painting and gloop making sessions! The Baby Yurt has a cosy chilled out area, with a feeding station and baby changing unit.

If you’re bringing a teenager...

Yurt T is an area where young people can hang out. Salon Mirela will be bringing their glitter salon, try out some screen printing with Printhaus, and there will be hula hooping workshops with Sparkle Hoops Troupe. The beautiful yurt will also feature performanc­es from some of Wales’ most exciting young bands.

If you’re a non-Welsh speaker...

Being a non-Welsh speaker doesn’t restrict you from enjoying the event at all. It’s all about celebratin­g Welsh arts and culture – even if this is your first ever experience of the language. The Welsh learner’s marquee is full of informatio­n about learning the language, and there’s plenty of opportunit­ies to practise your Welsh and meet other learners.

If you’re a sports fan...

The Urdd Sports Department is coordinati­ng a full timetable of football, rugby, golf, athletics and hockey sessions.

Cardiff City FC, FAW and Hockey Wales are all coming along to meet fans and run a few workshops.

If you’re into Welsh arts...

Pop over to Cwtsh y Celfyddyda­u – the home of Wales Millennium Centre at Tafwyl, full of art and craft activities for the whole family.

Literature Wales and Academi Hywel Teifi will present a series of

activities, sessions and literary workshops for children, young people and adults of all ages in the Literature Lounge. If this is all a bit much for you...

Escape from hustle and bustle of the festival in the new chill out zone.

The Wellbeing Yurt is filled with talks and taster sessions from health and wellbeing specialist­s.

Immerse yourself in yoga and therapy and learn how to live a healthier life in the city.

Highlights include a talk about Mindfulnes­s for Children and a Wellbeing at Work session.

For those who’ve had one to many on Saturday night, there will be a Hangover Yoga session on Sunday morning!

If you don’t want the party to end...

Don’t be dishearten­ed that Tafwyl has ended for another year as Clwb Ifor Bach and DJ Gareth Potter will be hosting the official Tafwyl afterparty, playing some amazing tunes to keep you dancing until the early hours of the morning.
