Investigation launched into ‘cow in car’ on M4

-

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after images were posted on social media of a cow in the back of a car on the M4.

The images show a large cow taking up most of the back window of a Volkswagen car on the M4 near Briton Ferry .

The post, which has been shared thousands of times, has attracted a number of comments, with many voicing their shock and confusion at the unusual passenger.

South Wales Police has told the BBC that officers are looking into whether any road traffic or animal welfare offences have occurred.

The RSPCA called the incident ‘completely unacceptable’.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “These photos are extremely concerning and this is a completely unacceptable way to transport a large farm animal.

“This represents an animal welfare concern, but also a risk to the safety of the driver and other road users.

“We would strongly urge people never to transport an animal like this.”

The picture has even attracted attention from Welsh actor Michael Sheen as he took to Twitter to have his say by comparing the incident to England’s World Cup hopes as he wrote: “Livestock’s coming home!”

It is believed that the incident took place on Friday night, but it is still not known why the cow was in the back of the car.
