Welsh chefs to cause a stir on Great British Menu

-

THE Great British Menu is back on TV this summer and three Welsh chefs will compete against one another – and the other home nations – to cook a celebratory feast for NHS heroes.

One outstanding chef will be crowned the champion of champions when banquet diners vote on their favourite dish in the final episode of the series which will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service.

There’s a cracking line-up for the Welsh round, with Jason Hughes, from Chateau Rhianfa, Anglesey, Chris Harrod, from The Whitebrook Restaurant with Rooms, Monmouthshire, and Andrew Sheridan, from Sosban, Llanelli.

They are tasked with impressing the judges, who are once again in charge of picking the perfect fourcourse menu, Andi Oliver, Oliver Peyton and Matthew Fort.

Helping the judges to select the winning dishes are guest judges who represent the incredible NHS heroes who treat more than a million patients every 24 hours.

Working at Sosban, the impressive Grade II-listed pumphouse restaurant, since autumn last year, Liverpool-born Andrew Sheridan has spent much of his 30 years in Wales.

On his Great British Menu experience, he said: “It was both the hardest and the best thing I have ever done in my life.”

Chris, who won a Michelin star within 11 months of launching his restaurant, trained under Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir.

First-time competitor Jason was bought up in Caernarfon and left school to serve in the RAF.

He eventually realised that cooking was his calling and left the RAF at 21 to work for Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy Grill in London.

The Great British Menu will be back on BBC Two later this summer.
