Raid roof death-fall man is named

-

A MAN who fell to his death from a factory roof following a raid by immigration officers on a car wash has been named.

An investigation was launched after the incident on Saturday, June 30.

An Immigration Enforcement team from Cardiff had gone to the Shaftesbury car wash in Albany Street, Newport, at about 9.30am.

Mustafa Dawood, from Sudan, was working at the car wash and climbed on to an adjacent factory roof before falling from a height.

Paramedics arrived and the 23-year-old was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

In a statement issued by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), a spokesman said it is understood Mr Dawood came to the UK in 2015 and had only recently moved to Newport after living in the Southampton area.

Mr Dawood’s family in Sudan have been informed and the IOPC has confirmed they are looking into the circumstances that led to his death. The IOPC is now appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which happened between 9.20am and noon on June 30 to come forward.

The organisation’s regional director, Jonathan Green, who has responsibility for Home Office matters, said: “We would ask that anyone who witnessed events in the vicinity of the car wash on Saturday to come forward to help with our investigation.”
