‘More police activity’ in officers’ hunt for missing blaze guest

-

THERE will be an “increase in police activity” in Aberystwyth as the search for a person missing following a hotel fire begins.

A blaze broke out at Ty Belgrave House, in Marine Terrace, in the early hours of Wednesday, July 25.

Three children and nine adults were evacuated from the building, with five being taken to hospital – but one guest still remains unaccounted for.

Now the remains of the building have been made safe enough for the search phase to begin.

A spokesman from DyfedPowys Police said: “Given that these activities are nearing completion the public can expect to see an increase in police activity in the near future as investigators begin the search phase in an effort to locate the missing male and gather further evidence in respect of the fire.

“The search phase is expected to take a number of weeks but no additional disruption to the site and surrounding area is anticipated.

“Dyfed-Powys Police, together with Ceredigion council, continue to do all possible to expedite proceedings and minimise disruption to those in the locality.

“The community and those visiting the town during the height of the holiday season are thanked for their co-operation and understanding during this time.”

The fire is currently being treated as unexplained, and in July a 30-year-old man was charged with arson with intent to endanger life. Damion Harris, of Llanbadarn, Aberystwyth, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swansea Crown Court on August 24.
