Bony future ‘remains undecided’

-

GRAHAM Potter has revealed Wilfried Bony’s future at Swansea City remains undecided as the striker continues his recovery from injury.

The forward has been heavily tipped to follow in the footsteps of several other key first team stars in departing the Liberty Stadium this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

He is continuing to recover from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in Swansea’s clash with Leicester City under Carlos Carvalhal in February.

And Potter has revealed the Ivorian is edging ever closer to returning to training, although he conceded his future at the club remains undecided.

When asked about Bony, Potter responded: “He is making good progress, he is not too far away from joining the group. He is a great character to have around, he supports the boys and he should not be too far away from joining training.

“I would not say (the club’s stance) has changed, we know what he offers.

“It is nice to have someone like him around, but we know the situation on the restructuring of the squad and he is aware of that too. He is a good person.

“It will depend on how his rehabilitation goes but he is getting closer and closer. I imagine we’ll see him in the group soon.”

Meanwhile, Kristoffer Nordfeldt is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks as a result of the groin injury he suffered in the 1-0 win over Preston.

The Swedish shot stopper was withdrawn midway through the first half of the win against the Lilywhites at the Liberty Stadium last Saturday as the Swans made it two wins from two in the Championship.

Erwin Mulder was brought on in his place and is set to start for the Swans in their clash with Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

And speaking ahead of the game against Garry Monk’s men, Potter revealed Nordfeldt is likely to be out of action for “two to four weeks”.

“It is not as bad as we thought, it could be two to four weeks, maybe sooner,” said the Swansea boss.

Elsewhere, Leroy Fer made his long awaited return from injury as a substitute in the win over Preston, although Potter has revealed the Dutchman is not ready to start against the Blues.
