Ruscoe declares his pride despite defeat in Denmark

-

THE NEW SAINTS boss Scott Ruscoe was still a proud man despite watching his side bravely bow out of the UEFA Europa League in Denmark.

The JD Welsh Premier League champions looked determined not to go down without a fight but in the end it was FC Midjtylland who prevailed 3-1 on the night in their second leg and 5-1 on aggregate in this third qualifying round tie.

Ruscoe said: “In the end it was probably a fair reflection.

“We competed well against an excellent side and over two legs we’ve done what was expected of us.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience of Europe and we can take many positives from it.

“It sets us up well for the league season.”

Midjtylland, having won the first leg 2-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium, went further ahead in the tie after 16 minutes when Costa Rican international Mayron George scored.

But, when Dean Ebbe levelled on the night six minutes later, hopes were raised of a comeback.

They were unable to find another way through, however, and a second half brace from Ayo Simon Okosun ensured a comfortable win for the Danish champions.

In the Irn-Bru Cup, TNS have been drawn at home to Queen’s Park in the second round, while Connah’s Quay Nomads are off to Falkirk.
