Passenger slams airline for ‘sexist’ children’s stickers

-

AN AIRLINE has been branded sexist after a passenger claimed they gave different badges to boys and girls.

Former permanent secretary to the Welsh Assembly Government, Dame Gillian Morgan, took to Twitter to criticise airline Tui after claiming all the boys travelling on the flight were given “future captain” stickers while all the girls got “future cabin crew”.

She tweeted: “@TUIUK why, on your flights, do little boys get a ‘future pilot’ badge whilst all the little girls get a ‘future cabin crew’ badge? Really not good enough. #sexismlives.”

She described herself as “furious” and said “it ran deep” because the stickers had been handed out by women.

In a statement, a spokesman for Tui said they were sorry to customers who were upset and that it was a “simple mix-up”.

He said: “We’re sorry to hear a small number of customers have been upset by this.

“We think it has just been a simple mix-up since our future pilot and cabin crew stickers are designed for use for any child regardless of gender.

“The stickers are part of our activity packs which are intended to be used by crew to interact, engage with and create special moments for our customers on their holiday.

“The feedback we’ve had so far this summer has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The spokesman added: “Children fall in love with flying when they go on their holidays with us and we want to encourage their dreams of becoming future pilots and crew members.”
