Harris hoping impressive start at Newport will be catalyst for Cardiff

-

MARK Harris is hoping his sparkling start to life on loan at Newport County can help him secure his future at Cardiff City.

The 19-year-old, who is at the Exiles until January, has impressed fans at Rodney Parade, scoring twice in the last two games.

And he hopes that once his spell is up he can return to line up for the Bluebirds in the Premier League.

“I’d love to go back and play in the Premier League with Cardiff,” said the Wales Under-21 player.

“I’ve been there since I can remember, that’s been my aim and my dream.”

He made his senior Bluebirds debut in January 2017 in the FA Cup defeat to Fulham and made two further appearances in the Championship at the end of the 2016-17 season.

Harris scored the Exiles’ equaliser against league leaders Exeter City before firing Newport’s second goal in their last-gasp 3-2 win over Notts County on Tuesday.

“Scoring is one of the best feelings you can have as a football player,” said Harris, who was delighted Jamille Matt grabbed the last-ditch winner against Kevin Nolan’s men, after Fraser Franks had scored Newport’s opening goal.

“To get the winner right at the end, what a feeling,” he said. “We just have to carry it on into Saturday against Grimsby and hopefully get another win.

“My aim is to get games and I’m getting that at the minute,” he added.

“The more games I get the more experience I gain and that is what I want really. I’m in the team and hopefully I stay in the team after my performance,” added Harris, pictured left.

“It’s a tough team to get in; everybody is scoring and everyone is playing well and hopefully it carries on.

“I’m enjoying what I am doing and hopefully I can just keep scoring goals and keep playing.

“There is three points in every game, you got to go out and put 100 per cent into everything you do.

“I need confidence from the manager to play me so I can improve and gain experience and that is what he is doing at the minute.”
