Boy dies after ‘tragic incident’ at school
ACHILD has died in hospital after concerns were raised for his wellbeing at St John Lloyd Catholic Comprehensive School in Llanelli.
Dyfed-Powys Police attended the incident at the school, which is in the Carmarthenshire town’s Harvard Road, yesterday.
A joint statement issued by the school and police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is in attendance at St John Lloyd School in Llanelli after concerns were raised for the wellbeing of a pupil. Tragically, we can confirm that the child has passed away in hospital. His family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and there is no need for other parents to be concerned for the welfare of their children.
“Our thoughts are with the family
and the school at this time.
“St John Lloyd is working with the local authority, the diocese and Dyfed-Powys Police in order to ensure pupils and staff are supported.”
A parent of a pupil at the school said: “It’s the second lockdown in six months. It happened around 12.30pm and there were six police cars, an ambulance and three rapid response vehicles.
“I went over and saw the police cars and a few parents turned up to collect their kids. The school said that the kids were not in danger at any time.”
The school took to social media to convey its appreciation for support and prayers. It tweeted: “Please see the St John Lloyd Facebook page for a joint statement from Dyfed-Powys Police/SJL re. a tragic incident that occurred at the school earlier today. Your support and prayers for our pupils, staff and families at this time is appreciated.”
Rob Evans, Carmarthenshire county councillor for the Dafen ward, said: “This is an incident which has saddened the local community and those living close by. The whole of Dafen is thinking of the pupil, their family and the school. The other schools in the area are also thinking of St John Lloyd Comprehensive at this time, and more importantly, the tragic loss of a pupil.
“I will say a prayer this evening for everybody who has been involved, especially the pupil who has passed.”
