CAPE TOWN ‘BEST VALUE’ FOR LONG HAUL DESTINATIONS
SOUTH Africa has regained its position as the cheapest long haul destination, according to Post Office Travel Money.
Local price falls and a weaker South African rand have combined to bring prices down 20% since last autumn, making Cape Town the best value of 34 resorts and cities surveyed.
Research partner, Travelbag, compared a range of 10 holiday staples including a cup of coffee, a bottle of local lager and a three course evening meal for two.
Cape Town came out at the best value at £51.48; Tokyo was second with £57.40 and Bali third with £63.95.
Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money, said: “After a summer when sterling gave holidaymakers less cash to spend in Europe, winter sun tourists will see their pounds stretch further in many of the most popular long haul destinations.”
