BRIDGEND........................26 SWANSEA.........................23

A LAST-GASP penalty try earned Bridgend a hard-fought victory over Swansea at the Brewery Field.

Swansea took the lead when R Rhys Williams dummied over and a second followed when J Rhys Williams made a break and found Josh Guy on hand to score.

Bridgend got their first try when Chris Williams fired out a killer pass to Adam O’Driscoll, who scored in the corner.

Morgan Jones then failed to take a charged down kick, and the ball spilled loose, allowing Swansea to attack at pace. Owen Howe and Ryan Griffiths linked up well, before Paul John squeezed over.

The home side were back on the attack and a patient build up saw Jamie Murphy ease over for a try under the posts before Tom Morgan was penalised for holding on and Howe punished the hosts.

The Ravens were then camped on the Swansea line before Iestyn Merriman dived over for a try.

The next score saw Foard Cooksley dart through the middle and the Bridgend defence was penalised for offside, with Howe kicking the penalty.

Close to the end the Ravens’ forwards inched toward the line before Paul John was yellow carded for killing the ball. The home side’s scrum was held up over the line. From the second scrum an advancing Bridgend pack earned a penalty try to clinch victory.

ULSTER A..........................15 SCARLETS A.....................45

SCARLETS A registered their first win in the inaugural Celtic Cup with a dominant display to beat Ulster A at Shaw’s Bridge.

The Irish side were first on the scoreboard when Bruce Houston split the posts after the Scarlets had been penalised.

But the rest of the first half belonged to the West Walians.

Angus O’Brien levelled it up before the first try arrived on 25 minutes, scored by centre Corey Baldwin. O’Brien converted.

Scarlets went further in front just moments later when wing Tomi Lewis scorched through from inside his own half, with the try again converted.

On 34 minutes a good Scarlets backs move created the overlap for Morgan Williams who dotted down under the posts. O’Brien again added the extras.

Scrum-half Kieran Hardy bagged the Scarlets their bonus point three minutes after the restart, the try again converted.

Lewis Ellis-Jones powered over for the Scarlets’ fifth try four minutes later which was converted.

Bradley Luney replied for Ulster on 54 minutes with their first try – converted by Houston – but Scarlets were soon over again with a converted Ryan Conbeer try on 62 minutes. Aaron Hall scored a second try for Ulster on 65, but the Scarlets held out.
