Deputy chair appointed to WRA’s board
FINANCE Secretary Mark Drakeford hs announced the appointment of the first deputy chair of the board of the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA).
Dyfed Edwards will take up the role of deputy chair with immediate effect. Dyfed has been a nonexecutive director of the WRA board since October 2017, when the new tax authority was officially formed by Welsh Government.
Professor Drakeford said: “I am pleased to confirm the appointment of Dyfed Edwards as the first deputy chair to the WRA board.
“Dyfed has been involved with the WRA since its formation last year and brings a wealth of experience to the role.”
WRA chair Kathryn Bishop said: “As we look to mark a year since the formation of the WRA board, we are delighted the Cabinet Secretary has made this appointment.
“We will continue to work with Dyfed, and wider colleagues, as a new tax authority raising important revenue to support communities across Wales.”
The WRA was the first nonministerial department to be setup by the Welsh Government and became operational in April this year,
Over its first four years of operations, the WRA is forecast to collect more than £1bn of tax revenue, supporting the NHS, schools and social services.
Mr Edwards has been a nonexecutive director on the Welsh Revenue Authority board since October 2017. He is a former teacher and governor of primary and secondary schools, with a wide knowledge of education in Wales, and has held the position of portfolio leader for education in Gwynedd.
On April 1 this year, land transaction tax replaced stamp duty land tax in Wales and is paid on residential and non-residential property purchases or leases above a certain price threshold; landfill disposals tax, which is paid on waste disposed of at landfill sites, replaced landfill tax.
