RYAN Giggs has dismissed the chances of him leaving his Wales role to replace Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager.

Mourinho has been heavily criticised this season, with with United languishing in 10th, dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Derby and fans unhappy with the style of football and bad publicity the club are getting.

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is tipped to replace Mourinho if he if he does get the chop, but Liverpool legend and TV pundit Graeme Souness says Giggs should get the job.

Pressed for his thoughts on Souness’ comments, Giggs replied: “I didn’t see it, to be honest.

“I’ve got a job already and I am happy in it.”

When asked at the announcement of his squad for Wales’ upcoming matches against Spain and Republic of Ireland if Mourinho should be sacked, Giggs responded: “No. I said that last time. Where do they go? My stance hasn’t changed.

“They’re going through a tough time at the moment, but change then you’re in the same position in a year, two years, quite possibly.

“I believe that he should keep his job. I think the problem has been forward planning.

“Just take stock, they’re going through a tough time but no my stance hasn’t changed.

“When you don’t win three games or you lose three games you are under pressure as a manager.

“It’s the way it is today, no matter what team you are managing.

“But when you are managing Manchester United it accentuates and gets that much bigger because the spotlight is there.

“That’s just where we are at in this moment.

“Different people, pundits, explayers, we have different views which as Jose said it – it’s freedom of speech.

“He won’t like it but that’s where some people have different views.”

He said: “Fortunately in international football it’s a bit different.

“You tend to get at least two years, which is at least one campaign.”

Giggs will be in charge of Wales’ crack at Euro 2020, but the big goal is qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

And he will be in situ throughout, despite Souness saying Manchester United should make an approach to the FAW for Giggs’ services.

Souness said: “If I was having a say, I would be looking at, sounds daft, Ryan Giggs.

“Someone that will be given more time going forward to get it right.”

Manchester United host winless Newcastle United at Old Trafford this Saturday in what will be their final league game before the international break.

Giggs’ Wales welcome Spain to the Principality Stadium next Thursday before facing Republic of Ireland at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium in the Nations League five days after.
