CUP DUTY FOR DRAGONS

-

WETHERBY ROAD

HARROGATE TOWN v WREXHAM

WREXHAM begin their latest Emirates FA Cup adventure this afternoon as they head to fellow National League high-flyers Harrogate Town in the fourth qualifying round.

It will be the Dragons’ second visit to Wetherby Road inside four weeks after the sides played out a goalless draw in the league encounter back on September 25.

Harrogate have been the surprise package since their promotion from National League North and have topped the table already this season, while they currently sit fourth.

Sam Ricketts’ Wrexham side, in second, are a point above Harrogate and only trail leaders Salford City on goal difference.

But, instead of league points, it is a place in the first round proper of this season’s competition at stake this afternoon.

Ricketts said: “The FA Cup is the best cup competition in the world isn’t it? What an opportunity to try and put a run together, something for

the fans, the players and the club in general to support.

“We’ve got a tough draw and we couldn’t have got much tougher than Harrogate away, but we’ll go there full of confidence with a game plan to win the game.

“Just a couple of weeks ago we were there, so we know what to expect, we know their strengths and know they are a good side.

“Both teams will want to win the game and go on a decent run, so it will be a tough game, nothing less than what we expect. I am just preparing as exactly the same as a league game.

“I know it is different and the rewards of winning the game are different, but ultimately I want to win the game.

“There is no difference in training or intensity, no difference in preparation, we are going out to win the match, just as we would a league game.

“It would be nice to have a run in the FA Cup and see where it takes us.”
