Police appeal for informatio­n after a serious sexual assault in Newport

DETECTIVES are appealing for informatio­n following a report of a serious sexual assault in the Queensway area of Newport.

The attack took place in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for any informatio­n which could help them in their investigat­ion. They are particular­ly keen on speaking to two women who helped the victim.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “We believe the offence happened sometime between 3.30am and 4am on Sunday, October 21, in the entrance to a locked car park off Queensway.

“The recess is located to the left of the Admiral Building, when facing it, between the junctions for Cambrian Road and Station Street.”

They said the victim, a woman in her 30s, was being supported by specialist officers.

“Detectives are investigat­ing and are appealing for informatio­n from anyone who may have seen anything that could help with the investigat­ion. They are particular­ly keen to speak with two women who helped the victim into a taxi after the alleged attack took place. One of the woman is described as having short hair, while the other was wearing a black strapless top.”
