Economic board submits bid for £1.3bn to boost growth in North Wales

-

A “ONCE in a generation opportunity” to transform the region’s economy with a £1.3bn boost has been submitted.

The North Wales Economic Ambition Board has submitted its bid for a Growth Deal to both the UK and Welsh governments.

It could create 5,000 permanent jobs and thousands more during the construction of some of the 26 different projects all across North Wales that the deal funding can turn into reality.

The proposals would enable investment of £1.3bn in the economy from Growth Deal monies totalling more than £380m.

The region is expectant that UK Government will confirm its commitment to funding a Growth Deal in the Chancellor of Exchequer’s Budget Statement next Monday.

The bid has the firm support of MPs and Assembly Members across the region while the Wales Office has been supportive of the case made.

A North Wales Economic Ambition Board statement said: “We wish Secretary of State Alun Cairns MP and Minister Mims Davies MP well in negotiating inside Government on the Board’s behalf, leading up to the Budget Statement.

“We invite all who have backed the Bid to lend them their support.”

Among the sites that could be developed with support from Growth Deal funds are Parc Bryn Cegin in Bangor, Warren Hall, Broughton and an extension to Wrexham Technology Park.
