Unspent TAG credits to be reclaimed by March

-

MOTORISTS have just three months to claim for any unspent credit on their TAG accounts after the Severn Bridge tolls are scrapped in December.

While the tolls will disappear overnight on December 17, 2018, Highways England will not start paying people back for any TAG devices and accounts until January 2, 2018.

The deadline to apply for the closure of TAG accounts and to process refunds is March 31, 2019.

Every motorist will be entitled to a full refund of their outstanding TAG account balance, as well as the £30 TAG device deposit. They must contact Highways England to authorise the closure of their account.

Commuters can only apply via telephone or by post.

Some commuters use the TAG device to load up an account in advance to pay for each bridge crossing, either by direct debit or online.

Others have a season tag which allows them to cross as many times as they like each month.

Highways England will take no further payments from December 18, unless there is a violation due.

It will be your responsibility to notify your bank and cancel the direct debit.

Highways England says it will be stopping all direct debit payments from December 17, 2018, with the final payment amended so drivers are only charged up until midnight on December 16.

If you are travelling on December 17, you will need to pay for your crossing by cash or card.

You can phone Highways England on 0343 3535 056 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
