Footage reveals moment football fans clashed near pub

-

SHOCKING scenes caught on CCTV show the moment two sets of rival football fans clashed at a Cardiff pub.

The graphic footage captures Cardiff City and Aston Villa supporters trading punches and kicks as bottles and chairs fly through the air.

The mass confrontation exploded in and around The Cornwall pub in Grangetown following a 3-0 win for the Bluebirds.

The footage, which has been made public for the first time and can be seen on our website WalesOnline, shows punches, kicks and bottles thrown by fans of both clubs with 13 people having now been convicted for their involvement in the melee.

Jemma Healey, assistant manager of The Cornwall, said she heard shouting and saw a group of men approaching looking “riled up”.

She described seeing about 20 men she had never seen before approaching the pub from Hereford Street, dressed in shorts and jeans, some with hoods up.

Giving evidence at Cardiff Crown Court she said they were running and waving their arms around during the incident just before 7pm on August 12, 2017, in the aftermath of a Championship fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium earlier that day.

Ms Healey told the Villa fans who had spilled out of a bus to “Get the f*** out of the pub and tried to shut and bolt the door but felt it being punched from outside.

She checked on customers back in the bar and saw a “big guy” looking scary. She said: “I was worried they were inside now.”

There was pushing and shoving and she told the men to leave. She added: “From the corner of my eye it looked like punches being thrown.”

Me Healey went outside after the men left the bar and saw them get on a minibus which drove off. She said: “There were smashed plastics, smashed bottles of beer, spilled. There was an old guy who was injured. He had a cut to the back of his head, a bloodshot eye, and a cut to his face. There was a younger guy with injuries. He had a cut to his head as well.

When asked how she felt, she replied: “Obviously upset and a bit shaken and angry.”
