Woman’s ban from soccer games

A WOMAN has been banned from football matches after head-butting a steward at the Wales v Denmark game.

Lois Griffiths, 41, became abusive towards staff at the game on November 16 after voicing frustration about the time it took to get into Cardiff City stadium.

Cardiff Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday that Griffiths, from High Street, Bala, had been drinking all day in Cardiff city centre before the incident.

When spoken to regarding her behaviour, she assaulted the steward and left him with a cut on his nose and bruising to both eyes.

Griffiths was arrested at the ground and taken to Cardiff Bay police station.

The football fan, who admitted assaulting a steward, is now subject to a three-year banning order preventing her from attending any UK football matches.

She will have to surrender her passport prior to Wales playing games abroad.

Griffiths was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and pay £85 costs and £85 to fund victim services.

PC Christian Evans, who investigated the incident, said: “The majority of Welsh fans are well-behaved. However, whenever there is evidence of footballrelated disorder or violence we always pursue those responsible.”
