Archers out to hit target in Reds clash

-

SIDELINED goalkeeper Will Fuller believes his Cardiff Met side have room for improvement as the Archers continue their top-six push against Llanelli Town in the JD Welsh Premier League this evening, writes Matt Burgess.

Fuller returned to training this week after suffering a tendon injury at the end of last season and has pencilled in a return for January.

Cardiff Met have made the topsix cut in each of their previous two seasons in the Welsh Premier, however they are off the pace this season, despite reaching next month’s Nathaniel MG Cup final, and need to close a seven-point deficit in the league with six games remaining before the split.

Fuller said: “We’ve definitely underperformed in the league so far, we’d be the first to acknowledge that as a group, but it also shows how far we’ve come in two seasons that being in the bottom six is underachieving.

“Making the final of the league cup is great for the club but our league form needs to improve if we’re going to look back on this season as being a success.”

Llanelli will be looking to bounce back after a shock JD Welsh Cup defeat to lower-league Llangefni.

The relegation-threatened Reds have shown some signs of improvement of but risk being cut adrift in the bottom two.

There are also four other games taking place this evening (all 7.45pm).

Just three points separate the top three clubs, who are all on the road.

Connah’s Quay Nomads, who are top with a one-point lead, visit Cefn Druids, whilst Barry Town United, second, travel to Carmarthen Town.

Champions The New Saints, third, go to Bala Town.

“Hopefully we can go on a good run of form but talk is cheap and the players have got to get out there and make sure we’re in a healthy position come the split,” said TNS manager Scott Ruscoe.

Elsewhere, Aberystwyth Town are unbeaten in seven matches ahead of the visit of top-six contenders Caernarfon Town to Park Avenue.

Then tomorrow night, Newtown clash with bottom side Llandudno at Latham Park with the game live in S4C, kick-off 7.45pm.
