Weather warning for busiest shopping weekend of the year

WALES is braced for snow and ice after two more weather warnings were issued by the Met Office for Wales.

This means there are now warnings in place for snow, rain, wind and ice across Wales today.

The warnings for snow and ice cover a large portion of east Wales as far south as the Brecon Beacons including the towns and villages lining the A40.

The warning runs for 24 hours from 9am today to 9am tomorrow.

All of south Wales is also facing severe weather warnings for wind and rain.

The warning includes Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Carmarthen­shire, parts of Pembrokesh­ire and the Valleys.

There could be 50mm of rain within six hours in addition to gales of up to 60mph on what is one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

The warning is in place until 6pm today.

In a statement a meteorolog­ist at the Met Office said: “Heavy rain and gales will affect parts of Northern Ireland and southweste­rn areas of the UK on Saturday.

“The wettest areas could see 30 to 50 mm of rain in six to 12 hours, while winds could gust to between 50 and 60 mph, especially in exposed coastal areas.

“The combinatio­n of these factors on a busy shopping weekend, may add to potential disruption.”
