High-flying Nomads have raised the bar to a new level – Morrison

-

CONNAH’S Quay Nomads boss Andy Morrison says his side have now set their own standard.

The Nomads, who are a point clear at the top of the JD Welsh Premier League, head to Maes Tegid today in the first of a double header against Colin Caton’s Bala Town – with the sides clashing at the Deeside Stadium on New Year’s Day.

Morrison’s men were in scintillating form last weekend as they hammered Cardiff Met 6-1 to ensure they were top of the pile at Christmas.

“Our games against Bala have always been really close encounters,” said Morrison.

“It’s normally tiny little details, one goal that has been the difference and we’ve always had great games against them.

“It is two very disciplined, organised teams that have a structure to what they do and many times we’ve nullified each other.

“We have come out on top, I think it’s about 10 or 11 games now since Bala beat us, so we have got that on our side.

“But they’ve just had a big win and have lads who are scoring goals.

“Colin’s teams are always top teams and this year they’ve shown once again that they’ll be up there come the end of the season.

“I thought we were exceptional against Cardiff Met and it was as dominant as we’ve been this season. We raised it to another level, we’ve set the standard and now we’ve got to maintain it.

“There’s a real spirit and togetherness within this group of boys and if we show the standards and quality that we did against Cardiff Met, then we’ll be a hard team to beat.”

Bala, meanwhile, who are eight points back on the Nomads in fourth, go into the game on the back of a crushing 7-1 win at Llanelli Town.

Steven Tames helped himself to four of those and is the division’s top scorer with 17 goals this term.

Barry Town United, in second, are only a point behind the Nomads as they gear up to face Cardiff Met at Jenner Park.

Gavin Chesterfield’s side beat Caernarfon Town 2-1 last weekend, which also cemented their place in the top six ahead of the split next month.

Champions The New Saints got back to winning ways with a thumping 4-0 win at Llandudno and boss Scott Ruscoe wants more of the same as they entertain Cefn Druids at Park Hall.

Elsewhere, Aberystwyth Town clash with Newtown, while Caernarfon Town host Llandudno and, in the early game, Llanelli Town battle Carmarthen Town (midday).
