How Cardiff squad rates in value stakes

-

THE Premier League is awash with cash and is widely regarded as the richest division in the world.

Manchester City, who have an embarrassment of riches, have a squad worth over a billion pounds.

They have the most expensive squad value of the 20 teams, so it’s no surprise they are pushing for the league title.

At the other end of the scale we have Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City. Their squad value of £79m puts them in 20th place - but also demonstrates the superb job manager Neil Warnock is doing.

Many wrote off the Bluebirds off before a ball was even kicked this season – which makes their position outside of the relegation spots even more astounding, when set against the figures we outline in detail below.

The Bluebirds, it is fair to say, are punching way above their weight.

The squad values of the teams that came up with them are thus - Wolves £209m, who are seventh in the league, and Fulham £22m, who languish below Cardiff in 19th.

Cardiff’s other relegation rivals, Southampton, Newcastle, Burnley and even Huddersfield, have a squad value well in excess of the Bluebirds’ figure.

According to Transfermrkt these are the latest market value figure for the Premier League and the highest-valued players in each squad.
