You never know what you’ll find at antiques fair and vintage market

-

THE first antiques fair and vintage market for 2019 will be held at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, on the outskirts of Carmarthen, just 15 minutes away from the M4, on January 26 and 27.

This unique setting is the reason for its success.

To experience the array of antiques with the backdrop of flora and fauna in the Glasshouse is breathtaking. Most areas of collecting can be found here – from fishing reels to Militaria.

Step next door to Principality House and then to the Wedding Marquee and Gallery Room to discover more quality antiques.

Theatr Botanica houses silverware, Moorcroft and vintage lamps. The fair expands into the Millennium Courtyard, filling it with a vintage antiques market, smaller marquees show off vintage toys, clothing and retro furniture plus numerous quirky items.

Welsh areas of collecting including pottery, textiles and books will be showcased plus displays of Welsh furniture from children’s chairs and milking stools to larger pieces.

Richard Bebb will be exhibiting Welsh paintings.

An impressive collection of Wemyss ware will be displayed by Helen and Alistair.

Their collection includes a rare gigantic tyg – a three-handled drinking vessel decorated with cabbage roses.

Wemyss pottery from Kirkcaldy in Fyfe, Scotland, is highly collected and rare pieces command high prices.

It was first produced in 1882 by Karel Nekola and Fife pottery-owner Robert Heron. The Queen Mother amassed one of the largest private collections of the pottery.

Wemyss was decorated with natural subjects in particular the cabbage rose.

The fair opens from 10am until 4.30pm and there will be up to 100 stands. Admission to the Garden and the antiques weekend is £5.

Dogs are welcome.
