Send­ing anti-nu­clear mes­sage to Hi­tachi

MARK Drake­ford, like Jeremy Cor­byn, has sup­ported CND.

In the run-up to the Welsh Labour Party’s elec­tion of him as First Min­is­ter he sent an un­mis­tak­able sig­nal to Hi­tachi he does not en­dorse Wylfa Newydd and said he in­tends to re­view the Welsh Gov­ern­ment’s sup­port­ive pol­icy for nu­clear power.

On his first day in of­fice his Gov­ern­ment over­rode the de­ci­sion An­gle­sey County Coun­cil had taken to ap­prove Hi­tachi’s site plans for Wylfa Newydd. These will now be ap­proved or re­jected by the Welsh Gov­ern­ment, thereby de­lay­ing the start of de­vel­op­ment and no doubt adding to Hi­tachi’s costs, even if ap­proval is granted at a later stage.
